• Joseph K. Mahl, 27, of Newton, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, public intoxication second offense, interference with official acts and disorderly conduct after authorities were called to Skiff Medical Center at 12:30 a.m. Friday. Officers found Mahl yelling and pulling away from family members. When he saw the officers, he became extremely agitated. He attempted to run in to the OB department when the officers apprehended him. He continued to yell and was causing a major disturbance in the hospital. An officer sustained a hip injury while trying to detain Mahl. He smelled of alcohol and while being searched, officers found a pipe made out of a tire air pressure gage which had marijuana in it. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Chad D. Halter, 43, of Newton, is charged with domestic abuse assault after authorities were called to 307 E. 25th St. Place S. at 5:40 p.m. Thursday. Officers found Halter and the victim who had been arguing. Halter said the victim verbally pushed him to his limit when he pushed her and she scraped her right elbow. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
