Roland-Story beats CMB volleyball in straight sets

STORY CITY — Collins-Maxwell/Baxter fell victim to a hot Roland-Story team Thursday night as the Norsemen won for the eighth time in their last nine matches.

Class 3A No. 12 Roland-Story beat the Raiders in straight sets, 25-8, 25-17, 25-10.

CMB head coach Scott Ranck said he felt the match was closer than the score indicated.

“We had several long rallies, stayed scrappy, moved much faster and tried to do several different things that will help us for the postseason,” Ranck said, “but again, they were another outstanding team from our conference and it was tough.”

Junior Bridget Hurley led the Raiders with four kills and an ace while senior Abbey Applegate recorded nine digs and Mackenzie Schmitz posted seven assists.

Roland-Story senior Lauren Himan had 12 kills and 14 aces, the most of each by any player in the match.

“We didn’t have much of an answer for their outside hitter (Himan),” Ranck said. “She is just a great player and she really carries their team.”

CMB’s next match is Monday at Van Meter.
