Warm clothing drive planned at Newton Library

Warm Clothing Drive

The Newton Public Library will be conducting a Warm Clothing Drive Oct. 1-15. Donations of new sweatshirts/hoodies, gloves, hats, scarves, coats and socks can be dropped off at the circulation desk. Clothing will be distributed to Newton Community Schools to be given to kids of all ages in need. Items must be new or they will not be accepted. Join us at 5 p.m. on Sept. 30 in the library meeting room to learn about LinkedIn. If you are looking for a new way to network with professionals, search for jobs, or join in conversations in your profession, this is the class for you! Powerpoint presentation by Miranda Kulis from Goodwill Career Connections on LinkedIn and how to use it. Participants are invited to stay after the presentation to set up a LinkedIn profile. If you have a laptop, please bring it with you to follow along if you wish.

Professional Development Book Club Starting @ the Library

The Newton Public Library started a new Professional Development book club. Our first book is "Crucial Conversations" by Grenny Patterson. If you would like to join, stop by the Information Desk to pick up a copy of the book. Our fist discussion date will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 15. The club will meet every third Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room and is open to all adults. Questions? Coffee & Movie: Draft Day

Enjoy coffee and a movie at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the library meeting room. Synopsis of Draft Day: On the day of the NFL Draft, general manager Sonny Weaver has the opportunity to save football in Cleveland when he trades for the number one pick. He must quickly decide what he’s willing to sacrifice in pursuit of perfection as the lines between his personal and professional life become blurred on a life-changing day for a few hundred young men with dreams of playing in the NFL.

Kindle Fire Basics Class

At 6 p.m. on Oct. 6, join us in the library meeting room for a class on Kindle Fire Basics. Learn how to download eBooks free through the library, connect to wi-fi, change settings and sync email. Bring your fully charged Kindle Fire, Amazon Log-In & Password, and your library card (if you have one). Participants do not need to register for this class.

You can now access the Library's catalog from Facebook. Go to the library's page "Newton Library Iowa" or www.facebook.com/NewtonPublicLibraryIowa and scroll down until you see "Library Search" on the Left hand side of the screen in the "Apps" category.
