Volleyball roundup: Rough night for area teams

PERRY — Collins-Maxwell/Baxter couldn't get much going in its favor Thursday night at a tournament in Perry, losing all three of its matches.

The Raiders lost in two sets to Perry (21-8, 21-12), three sets to Panorama (22-20, 19-21, 15-11) and two sets to Earlham (21-18, 21-13).

"In a nutshell, we really struggled tonight," CMB head coach Scott Ranck said. "We need to regroup, refocus and look at doing some things differently, better and more consistently. We're much better than we showed tonight."

Bridget Hurley provided one of CMB's few bright spots, as she totalled eight kills and six aces on the night. Payge Jurgens also added 13 kills for CMB (1-5).

Colfax-Mingo loses on the road

JEWELL — Playing their first match in two weeks, the Tigerhawks struggled against host South Hamilton in a straight set loss. (25-7, 25-8, 25-12).

Alyssa Hegland recorded 11 kills for South Hamiton (10-4).

No stats were available for Colfax-Mingo (1-2).

"Our passing was there (against South Hamilton)," Colfax-Mingo head coach Michelle Grant said. "We spent most of the match on the defensive because our passing wasn't what it needed to be.

"We are looking forward to Saturday at Twin Cedars, hoping we can make some improvements in our passing game to help get something going offensively."

Mustangs fall to ranked foe

ALLEMAN — Prairie City-Monroe was swept for the eighth time this season in a road loss at No. 13 North Polk Thursday night.

The Mustangs lost in three sets to the host Comets, 25-8, 25-7, 25-15.

Senior Courtney Van Houweling posted 11 digs in a losing effort for PCM (2-10).

Thursday's match marked the fifth time this season PCM has lost to a ranked team.

The match was also the Mustangs' first since playing at Carlisle Sept. 2.
