Football Saturday Storytime

Join us for a special Saturday Storytime in the Newton Public Library Carousel Horse Room at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Come dressed sporting your favorite football team jersey or colors. For ages 3-9. Story time includes stories, music and a simple craft. Siblings are welcome. No registration needed.

Knee-High Naturalists

Jasper County Conservation naturalists will present a program at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Carousel Horse Room.

Good night sleepy head! As you go to sleep, many nocturnal animals are just waking up. We will read a story, listen to nighttime sounds and look at many examples of our local creatures of the night.

Professional Development

Book Club

The Newton Public Library is starting a new book club focused on professional development starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The book club will focus on professional development materials, which refer to the acquisition of skills and knowledge, both for personal development and for career advancement. At the first meeting, the group will pick a name for itself, discuss what each member wants to learn and sign up to receive the first book. Members do not need to have a library card to join but may wish to get one to obtain books for free.

The club will meet every third Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. in the library meeting room and is open to all adults. Questions? Contact Nicole Lindstrom, public services librarian, at (641) 792-4108 or nlindstrom@newton.lib.ia.us.

Watch the Movie ‘Divergent’

A movie showing of “Divergent” is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the library meeting room. Snacks will be provided, and the event is open to all ages.

Synopsis: In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she’s Divergent and won’t fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it’s too late. If you’d like to read the book, ask to place a hold on a copy at the information desk.
