Cardinal freshmen place third

BROOKLYN — Newton High’s freshmen claimed third at the BGM tournament Tuesday. The Cardinals went 2-1.

The Cardinals defeated English Valley 21-12, 21-9 and beat Montezuma in a three-set match. Newton rallied after dropping the first set, winning 19-21, 21-12, 15-9.

Newton dropped a 21-13, 21-14 decision to BGM.

“The girls did much better with serves and they are doing much better on defense and staying low,” said Jennifer Mouchka, NHS assistant coach.

Newton’s freshman go to Pella Christian next Tuesday.
