Kathleen R. Freeman

Kathleen R. Freeman, 74, of Newton died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at Heritage Manor. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service.  Memorials to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League may be left at the funeral home.

Kathleen, the daughter of Roy Estes and Alice Mae (Bond) Halferty, was born on March 6, 1940, in Keota. She was united in marriage with Joseph “Joe” Freeman on April 30, 1982, in Sioux Falls, S.D. They made their home in Newton. Kathleen owned and operated K&J Lawn and Garden Service.

Kathleen is survived by her son, Gary (Tanya) Goodman of Ames; and daughter, Sherry (Bob) Hughes of Newton; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Robert Halferty of Newton, Maxine (Jim) Kubath of Wisconsin, and Rex Halferty. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Freeman; sister, Joan Lamphier; and brother, Joe Halferty.
