The Lost Bird Project film and art event

Jasper County Conservation Board and the Centre for Arts and Artists will host a showing of the documentary film, The Lost Bird Project, at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the DMACC campus auditorium in Newton. The public is invited for the movie showing and then view bird art on display in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Passenger Pigeon’s extinction.

The Lost Bird Project documents the stories of five birds driven to extinction in modern times and sculptor Todd McGrain’s project to memorialize them. The film follows the road trip McGrain takes as he searches for the locations where the birds were last seen in the wild and negotiates permission to install large bronze sculptures there.

Katie Cantu, JCCB naturalist, will give a short introduction to the film and The Centre for Arts and Artists is sponsoring local artists’ displays and an optional school field trip activity in conjunction with the event.
