Serious tractor accident in Prairie City

An accident just outside of Prairie City resulted in one of the victim's of the crash needing to be transported via air ambulance to Des Moines.

PRAIRIE CITY--Two people were seriously injured around 3 p.m. this afternoon after a pickup truck collided with the rear end of a tractor while traveling westbound, 2 1/2 miles west of Prairie City on Highway 163.

According to Asst. Prairie City Fire Chief Tony Mosher, the passenger in the truck's backseat and driver of the tractor sustained injuries but do not appear to be life-threatening. One was taken to Des Moines by Life Flight helicopter, and the other was transported by Monroe ambulance. The driver of the truck was uninjured.

Westbound traffic on HWY 163 was blocked near the entrance of Prairie Ag Supply while Life Flight was on scene, but one lane was reopened as of 4:45 p.m. Officers are still investigating at the scene and have not yet released the identities of those involved in the crash.

Jasper County Sheriff's deputies, Iowa State Patrol, Monroe ambulance, Prairie City Fire and Altoona Fire Department responded to incident.
