The Newton Public Library will be assisting in the Iowa Public Television’s Ready for School project, and any organization in Newton that works with young children is invited to attend the initial meeting at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the library conference room.

This year, Ready for School will assist 25 communities in implementing community-based plans to improve the math and literacy skills of children ages 2 to 8. The Ready for School initiative will use a comprehensive 360-degree approach to surround children, parents, caregivers and early educators with free literacy-based media content, online games, instructional materials and educational activities to help children increase their school readiness.

The project also will help communities deploy free public television early literacy resources and activities in multiple venues to help increase the school readiness of children in their communities.
