Iowa State Fair Results

• Phyllis Olson of Newton won first place in the Rice Creations Main Dish competition and third place overall at the 2014 Iowa State Fair. In the Foods Made with Honey competition she won first place overall in the Bread and Rolls and Adult classes and first place in honey oatmeal bread; first place in Gingerbread and third place in pineapple upside down cake in the Smile in Every Aisle Cakes competition.

• Deana Wright of Colfax won first place in the Purnell Old Folks’ Sausage Cook-off competition for her Casserole.

• Clayton Fuller, 14, of Prairie City placed second in the ages 4-16 duck calling competition.

• Paige Wood, 14, of Prairie City placed third in the ages 4-16 turkey calling competition.

* Chad Wood of Prairie City won first place in the ages 17+ turkey calling competition at the Iowa State Fair.

• Jessica Fryer of Prairie City placed second in the ages 17+ turkey calling competition.

• Kate Brinegar of Monroe placed second in the 3-4 year old division of the coloring contest at the Iowa State Fair.

• Bonnie Swalwell Eilert of Newton tied for 10th placed in the Ladies’ Chicken Calling contest.

• Randy Clark of Monroe placed third in Class A of the Open Singles division of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament; and fourth in Class A of the Farmers’ Championship division.

• Lauryn Paulson of Colfax placed second in banana nut bread in the Adventureland Food Contest for 6-11 year olds.

• Heather Young of Sully placed third in chocolate brownies with nuts, second in oatmeal cookies, received honorable mention in oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips, placed first in oatmeal cookies with raisins and/or fruit, and first placed for peanut butter cookies in the Adventureland Food Contest for 6-11 year olds.

• Noah Paulson of Colfax placed second in Rice Krispie cookies or bars in the Adventureland Food Contest for 6-11 year olds.

• Logan Zaabel of Kellogg received Champion for jumbo vegetables in the FFA Horticulture competition at the Iowa State Fair.

• Tapanga Birkenholtz of Newton received Champion Harlequin in the FFA Rabbit Show at the Iowa State Fair.

• Lois Aldridge of Kellogg placed second in towels and fourth in pair of pillowcases in the embroidery division of the Fabric and Threads contest.

• Marilyn Samson of Prairie City placed third for pair of pillowcases in the embroidery division of the Fabric and Threads contest; received fourth place in infant/toddler dress, day wear, and second place in children’s play clothes in the clothing construction division of the Fabric and Threads contest.

• Lincoln Peterson of Newton placed third in ages 5-9 division of the Joy Cones Creations for Kids contest, third placed in sewn items — redesigned or recycled in the Junior division of the Fabric and Threads contest.

• Morgan Peterson of Newton received second place in age 10-14 class of the Joy Cones Creations for Kids contest.

• Janice Blubaugh of Colfax placed second for Swedish weaving in the Counted Thread Techniques contest, fourth place for picture made with mixed fibers in the needlepoint division of the Fabric and Threads contest.
