Tony Award-winning musical “Evita” makes its debut at the Des Moines Civic Center this month, with performances are slated for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 21-23 along with a 2 p.m. matinee performance Aug. 23. “Evita” tells the story of Eva Perón used her beauty and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. Adored by her people as a champion for the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world — while her greed, outsized ambition and fragile health made her one of the most tragic. Tickets are available at www.desmoinesperformingarts.org, the Civic Center Ticket Office, all Ticketmaster locations and by calling (800) 745-3000. Groups of 15 or more should call (515) 246-2340.
