Newton Police Department

• Carl F. Bragg Jr., 38, of Newton was charged with preventing apprehension after authorities were called to 319 E. 12th St. N. at 5:39 p.m. July 27. Officers were called to an abandoned residence, where they spoke to Bragg along with another man. Both them were asked several times if there was any one else at the residence and they stated no. Police searched the residence and found his son hiding in the basement. He was taken to the police department, cited and released to appear in court.

• Justin P. Doran, 32, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called to Wal-Mart at 10:10 a.m. July 28. The loss prevention employee stated they saw Doran conceal a hat and a DVD and leave the store without paying. When confronted Doran threw the hat back at the employee. The DVD case was found in the store, but the DVD was missing. Authorities caught up to Doran in the 2800 block of South Second Avenue East. The total value of the items was $23.50. He was cited and released to appear in court.

• Lane K. Douglas, 57, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree criminal mischief after authorities were called to 732 First Ave. E. at 12:30 a.m. July 29. Three witnesses stated that there was someone shooting a pellet gun at a window. They heard between three to five shots hit and also heard obscenities being yelled. The estimated damage to the window is $100. Douglas was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Shyeaka S. Robinson, 39, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities were called to the parking lot by Radio Shack in reference to a situation at 6:15 p.m. July 29. She was charged and released to appear in court.
