Newton Police Department

• Stefanie, D. Cluphf, 38, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called to Walmart at 3:35 p.m. July 22. She was charged for allegedly concealing multiple items in her purse as well as filling up a shopping cart with $105.19 worth of items before leaving the store. When confronted in the parking lot, she left the scene and was stopped a short time later by officers. She was taken to the Jasper County
Jail.

• Jorge A. Flores-Estrada, 26, of Mingo was arrested after authorities pulled over his vehicle in the lot of McDonald’s at 10:42 p.m. July 24. He was wanted on a Jasper County warrant for failure to appear in court on a trespass charge. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Geraldine M. Graham, 80, of Newton was cited with failure to yield from a stop sign after authorities were called to the intersection of East 12th Street South and South Eighth Avenue East at 12:20 p.m. July 22. Graham was traveling east when she entered the intersection and collided with a southbound vehicle driven by Nancy Zach, 68, of Newton. Zach’s vehicle sustained an estimated $1,000 damage and Graham’s an estimated $2,500.

• Romone R. Jackson, 31, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped his vehicle at 2:03 a.m. July 25 in the 800 block of West Sixth Street South for the registered owner being under suspension. He was found to be under suspension and also cited for no insurance. He was released to appear in court.

• Janan R. Kimberlin, 45, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped her at 10:03 p.m. July 22 in the 700 block of South Eighth Avenue East for an equipment violation. She was charged for driving with a suspended license, given a warning for having an inoperable tail light and released to appear in court.

• Amber M. Miller, 26, of Newton was charged with forgery and fifth-degree theft and Logan E. Harlow, 24, address unknown, was charged with aiding and abetting after authorities spoke to a victim about a stolen checkbook on a closed bank account. The victim stated the checkbook had been stolen some time after Nov. 10, 2013, while she was on vacation. Multiple checks totaling more than $600 were used at several local businesses. Miller and Harlow were identified by a witness using one of the checks. They were arrested July 18 and transported to the Jasper County Jail. Harlow also was wanted on two Jasper County warrants for probation violation.

• Ashley J. Mortensen, 27, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped her vehicle in the 2900 block of North Fourth Avenue East for speeding at 3:38 p.m. July 24. She was found to be under suspension, warned for speeding and released to appear in court.

• Dixie D. Morton, 50, of Newton was cited with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to maintain control after authorities were called to the intersection of North Third Avenue East and East 12th Street North at 5:28 p.m. July 21. Morton was driving south when she yielded and hit a parked vehicle owned by Nicholas Klingensmith, 47, of Newton. Morton’s vehicle sustained an estimated $400 damage and Klingensmith’s an estimated $450 damage.

• Camron K. Olson, 32, of Collins was charged with harassment after authorities were called at 1:04 p.m. July 24 to 903 N. Fourth Ave. W. regarding threats made to a victim. Olson was charged for allegedly threatening to kill the victim and his family over a money dispute. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Adnan M. Osman, 26, of Lindenhurst was cited with failure to maintain control after authorities were called to the 165 mile marker on Interstate 80 eastbound 6:37 p.m. July 23. Osman was driving on Interstate 80 eastbound when he went off the road and into the ditch with one passenger. Impairment tests were taken but no results found. His vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 damage.

• Natalie M. Ratcliff, 23, of Newton was cited with failure to maintain control after authorities were called to the East Fourth Street South at 11:37 a.m. July 21. Ratcliff was traveling south when she struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Marva Doerring, 73, of Newton. Doerring’s vehicle sustained an estimated $300 damage and Ratcliff’s an estimated $1,000 damage.

• Arturo A. Rico, 20, of Newton was charged with domestic assault after authorities were called to 1501 N. 11th Ave. E. Apt. #9D for a physical domestic assault at 3:18 p.m. July 6. He left the scene upon the authorities arrival, but the victim has visible red marks and swelling. He was located at 8:30 p.m. July 22, charged and taken to
the Jasper County Jail.

• April M. Steine, 23, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped her at 9:10 p.m. July 22 in the 200 block of First Avenue West for an equipment violation. She was given a warning for having an inoperable headlight, charged for driving with a suspended license and released to appear in court.

• A 15-year-old Newton male was charged with fourth-degree theft after authorities were dispatched at 1:44 p.m. July 17 to a residence in the 700 block of First Avenue East in reference to a stolen bike. The victim and reporting party stated a group of juveniles were in the area about the time the bike was stolen. On July 18, the reporting party told officers the 15-year-old’s mother had located the bike at her residence. The teenager was referred to juvenile court services.

• A 16-year-old Newton female was charged with public intoxication after authorities observed four young subjects walking at 4:30 a.m. July 19 in the 200 block of North Eighth Avenue East and stopped to investigate. Two males ran through the woods, and two females also ran but were caught. One teen appeared to be intoxicated, a breath test showed her BAC was .135. She was referred to juvenile court services.

• A 15-year-old Newton male was charged with fifth-degree criminal mischief after authorities were dispatched at 7:22 p.m. July 23 to a residence in the 500 block of East 27th Street South in reference to siblings fighting and criminal mischief. The teen was charged for allegedly picking up a bicycle during a disagreement over a cell phone and smashing the bike into the front passenger-side window of a vehicle, causing an estimated $175 damage. He was referred to juvenile court services.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

• Luke A. Farland, 29, of Kellogg was charged with operating while intoxicated after authorities stopped him for a traffic violation at 2:58 a.m. July 20 at South 22nd Avenue East and Iowa Speedway Drive. He appeared to be intoxicated, and a breath test showed his BAC was .112. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Theresa L. Rankin, 50, of Monroe was charged with operating while intoxicated after authorities stopped her for a traffic violation at 1:18 a.m. July 19 at American and South Commerce streets in Monroe. She appeared to be intoxicated, failed sobriety tests and a breath test showed her BAC was .181. Rankin was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Cody A. Sanders, 26, and Vanessa L. Trotter, 22, both of Newton, each were charged with conspiracy, a Class D felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities responded to an incident at 11:22 p.m. July 19 at 4683 Legion St. #170. Three individuals fled the scene on foot, and authorities apprehended Sanders and Trotter a short distance away from the residence. They admitted to being at the residence with three others to take a laptop and clothing. Authorities also charged them for allegedly being in possession of a methamphetamine pipe, and both were transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Kevin R. Sherlock, 48, of Newton was charged with operating while intoxicated, second offense, after authorities stopped him for a traffic violation at 2:38 a.m. July 18 in the 13000 block of Highway 6 East. He appeared to be intoxicated, and a breath test showed his BAC to be .102. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
