Thieves strike Habitat for Humanity group

DUBUQUE (AP) — Tools worth more than $3,800 were stolen from a Habitat for Humanity construction site in Iowa.

The Telegraph Herald reports last week’s burglary occurred at the latest site in Dubuque the charity was working on. The theft has left one of the local charity’s board members frustrated that it’s hurt their efforts to help residents.

Board member Jerry Fudge says the thieves stole all of the group’s power tools, including a circular saw, belt sander and table saw. The equipment was bought using a $5,000 grant the group received.

The charity has insurance that would cover the thefts, but with a $5,000 deductible.

Fudge says the group will buy some tools and will likely rely on other borrowed gear to work on a house on Saturday.
