Puppets, ‘Hunger Games’ party planned at library

Puppet Show

with Puppeteer

Puppeteer Kevin Coble will put on a show at 1 p.m. Monday in the Newton Public Library meeting room for children ages 2 to 10 years old. No registration required.

Teen Crafternoon

Come be creative at the library at 1 p.m. Thursday in the library meeting room. Make a necklace with a pic of your favorite book.

The program is free and for students in seventh through 12th grades. Call the library at (641) 792-4108 to register.

Pizza and Pool Party

at Maytag Pool

Turn in your book log by Aug. 1 to receive your ticket for the pool party at Maytag Park and free pizza provided by Domino’s.

The party is a reward for children who have finished the summer reading program. Children must have a ticket to enter. One slice of pizza per child, and if there is enough pizza, we will allow seconds for children and adult family members to have pizza after 6 p.m.

Thank you to Scott Creech at Domino’s for providing the pizza for this annual event. Pizza will be served at 5 p.m. and swimming also begins at 5 p.m.

‘Hunger Games’ Party

Come dressed as a Capital citizen or your favorite tribute from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4 in the library meeting room. Games will be played — try your best at our “Hunger Games” trivia contest and win great prizes. For kids who have completed sixth to 12th grade only. No registration necessary. Snacks included.

Story Times Schedules

Pick up a separate storytime sheet for Toddler & Twos (18 to 36 months) or Preschool Storytime (ages 3 to 5) at the Youth Services Librarian’s desk. The schedules contain August story times.

Schedule for Adults

Pick up the schedule for programs aimed at adults back by the information desk. It contains programs scheduled in August and September. And as always, all programs can be found in our calendar online at www.newton.lib.ia.us.

Classics & Art

Books for Sale

We have a had a large donation to the library and many classics and art books will be hitting the Friends Sale Cart located by the circulation desk. Stop in and take a look. Proceeds go to the Friends of Library to use in enhancing the library and programs.

Renew Items Online

To renew items from the Newton Public Library online, visit www.newton.lib.ia.us, click the "Catalog" button, go to "My Account" and "Review My Account." Log in to your account by typing your library card number (no spaces) next to User ID and then click "Display User Information."

In your account, click on “Checkouts.” You can checkmark items you want to renew by clicking in the box to the left of each title. When done, click on “Renew Selected Items.” Your confirmation should appear.

Reminder: Items that will fail to renew include DVDs, pamphlets, magazines, items that have renewed once already, items already overdue and items that have a hold waiting. Need help? Call the information desk at (641) 792-4108.
