Coming up: author, movies, animals at Newton library

Fiction Author

Christian Fiction Author Sheryl Carter will be reading from her book and playing her Mountain Lap Dulcimer at the library at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Newton Public Library. Her book “The Quiet Road” is available at the library. Personalized signed copies of her book will be available for purchase at the program. Book Synopsis: A Christian historical novel based in the prairie in the 1860s.

Blank Park Zoo ‘Animal Show and Tell’

Join a zoo educator to learn about the different places animals call home on Thursday.

From burrows underground to nests high in the trees, this program will cover the different types of dwellings where animals live. Children will get to meet animals that all have a different idea of home. The program will be held outside on the library lawn so bring a blanket to sit on. If it is raining, the program will be in the library meeting room. Register for the 9:30 am or 10:30 a.m. presentation.

Chick Flick & Lit. Movie: ‘Endless Love’

Join us at 6 p.m. Thursday in the library meeting room for a movie! Enjoy a movie adaptation of a book that can be found in the library and snacks.

Synopsis: The story of a privileged girl and a charismatic boy whose instant desire sparks a love affair made only more reckless by parents trying to keep them apart.

Friday Flick

There will be a free children’s movie in the library meeting room at 1 p.m. Friday, July 25.

Seating is on the floor; you may bring a pillow if you wish. Check our website or call for the movie being shown that week and the length of the movie. All movies shown are rated either G or PG.

Adult Summer Reading

Program Party

This year there will be an end of the Adult Summer Reading Program party at the Centre for Arts & Artists on Friday, July 15.

There will be a wine tasting, appetizers and door prizes. In order to attend, you must have signed up for the reading program, read three books and wrote reviews for them. Finished review sheets can be turned into the information desk before the party or at the party. There is still time to sign-up and read reviews before the party. Stop by the information desk today.

Puppet Show

with Puppeteer

Puppeteer Kevin Coble will put on a show at 1 p.m. Monday, July 28, in the library meeting room for children ages 2 to 10 years old. No registration required.

Renew Items Online

To renew items from the Newton Public Library online, visit www.newton.lib.ia.us, click the "Catalog" button, go to "My Account" and "Review My Account." Log in to your account by typing your library card number (no spaces) next to User ID and then click "Display User Information."

In your account, click on “Checkouts.” You can checkmark items you want to renew by clicking in the box to the left of each title. When done, click on “Renew Selected Items.” Your confirmation should appear.
