Debra (Kirk) Smead

Albia — Debra Smead, 58, of Albia died Friday, July 11, 2014, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Debbie was born July 6, 1956, to Clifford and Barbara (Major) Kirk in Albia. Debbie’s family moved to Newton where she attended school for several years before returning to Albia where she graduated with the class of 1976. In 1990, she married David Smead in Albia.  Debbie was a homemaker for most of her life. She enjoyed reading and crocheting. She also enjoyed watching the Wizard of Oz. She was a very talented cook and loved to spend time with her family and special friends Sandy Hoover and Karen Ballalatak.

Debra is survived by her husband Dave Smead of Albia; her children, Gina (Shawn) Adolphi of Eddyville, Jenifer (Tommy) Gillespie of Albia and Michael (Lindsay) Smead of Albia; seven grandchildren, Delanie, Taylor, Talya, Kaden, Colton, Cooper and Kirkland; and four brothers, Kenny (Cindy) Kirk, Mike Kirk, Rick Kirk, and Cliff (Donna) Kirk all of Albia. She is also survived by many nieces; nephews; and special friend Sandy Hoover.

She was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Barbara; a brother Donny; and a special friend Karen Ballalatak.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor John Van Weelden officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Debbie’s family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
