Area softball roundup: PCM one win from state

TRURO — The Prairie City-Monroe Mustangs are one win away from going to the state tournament.

The Mustangs dominated Interstate 35, 11-1, Friday night in a Class 3A regional semifinal game. The victory was PCM’s 10th in a row.

Abigail Gilson continued her hot hitting as she homered for a second straight game. The senior drove in six runs and also doubled in the victory.

Gilson was one of five Mustangs with two hits. Freshman Jayci Vos was another, as she doubled twice and added two RBI.

Racheal Freland pitched a complete game for the Mustangs. She gave up only three hits, and the Roadrunners scored their lone run of the game in the seventh inning.

PCM will play West Burlington tonight in Ottumwa for a state tournament berth.

Raiders’ season comes to an end

EDDYVILLE — Collins-Maxwell/Baxter’s softball season ended Friday with a 3-1 loss to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.

The game was tied 1-all until Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning.

CMB finished the season with an overall record of 15-15.
