Two area softball teams advance to regional title games

Three area high school softball teams played regional semifinal games Friday night. Two — Lynnville-Sully and Prairie City-Monroe — won and will play for regional championships and state tournament berths on Monday.

Class 1A second-ranked Lynnville-Sully rolled past Twin Cedars, 13-3, in six innings at Sully Friday. The Hawks, who took fifth in the 2013 Class 1A state tournament, play H-L-V at 7 p.m. Monday in Oskaloosa for the Class 1A Region 5 title. H-L-V defeated Sigourney, 6-4, in the other semifinal Friday.

PCM’s Mustangs powered past Interstate 35, 11-1, in a Class 3A, Region 7 semifinal at Truro. West Burlington/Notre Dame beat Albia, 6-4, in the other semifinal. PCM takes on West Burlington/Notre Dame at 7 p.m. Monday in Ottumwa.

Collins-Maxwell/Baxter’s Raiders had their season come to an end in Friday’s Class 2A Region 6 semifinal at Eddyville. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont got past CMB, 3-1.
