PRAIRIE CITY — A six-run deficit early in Prairie City-Monroe’s regular season finale Thursday night proved too much for the Mustangs to overcome.
The visiting Pella Christian Eagles topped PCM, 13-6, after scoring seven runs in the first two innings off starting pitcher Tyler Townsend.
Pella Christian chased Townsend from the mound by taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning and then adding five more runs before Townsend could finish the second. The junior lasted 1 2-3 innings, giving up five hits and walking one.
PCM totalled 14 hits in the loss, which saw senior right fielder Zach Uhlenhopp go 4-for-4 for his first four-hit game of the season.
The loss was the fourth in a row for PCM, which finished the regular season at 11-14. The Mustangs play either Albia or Pella Christian in the second round of districts Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
