Warrant trips up suspect in 1995 theft

CORALVILLE (AP) — An old warrant has tripped up a woman suspected of stealing $392 worth of items from a Coralville motel in 1995.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen says 39-year-old Tina Padavich, of Muscatine, was detained by officers in another jurisdiction. A routine check for warrants found one from Coralville. Johnson County Jail records say Padavich remained in custody on Thursday. Her attorney didn’t immediately return a call from The Associated Press.

A Coralville police complaint from 1995 says Padavich was staying with four children at The Heartland Inn on March 10, 1995. Coralville Police Chief Barry Bedford told the Press-Citizen that hotel workers noticed the next day that a baby crib and linens were missing after Padavich checked out. The items were valued at $392.
