Anna Jean Halter

Anna Jean Halter, 86, of Newton died Thursday evening, June 26, 2014, at her home in Newton.

A funeral service for Jean will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 2 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who have been entrusted with the arrangements. Rev. Randy Bates and Rev. Jarrin Lucas will be conducting the services. A visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials in Jean’s name are being designated.

Jean was born Oct. 6, 1927, in Russell, the daughter of Tom McDonald and Hazel (Duckwarth) McDonald. She had attended rural country school. In 1947, Jean was united in marriage with Wilbur Blaine Halter in Baxter. She was employed by the local school district in food service, retiring in 1989. She devoted her life to her husband and family, and was a long time member of the Bible Missionary Church. She enjoyed her family, outdoors, her garden and cooking for her family, neighbors and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wilbur on Aug. 30, 2010; and two brothers, Clell McDonald and Frank McDonald.

Those left to honor Jean’s memory include her daughters, Linda James (Earl), Joyce Behrens (Joe) and Mary Sloan (Dennis), all of Newton; her son David Halter (Bev) of Des Moines; her six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; her sister Donna Schnieder (James), and brother Robert McDonald (Karen), all of Chariton; and her best friend, Libby her dog.
