Newton Police Department

• Tanner S. Auten, 24, of Newton was charged with assault causing bodily injury after authorities responded to a report of an assault at 7:51 p.m. Sunday at a residence in the 100 block of East Fifth Street South. He was charged for allegedly wrestling the victim to the ground, causing two cuts to the victim’s face. Auten was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Anthony A. Hofer, 28, of Baxter was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped him at 10:23 a.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of East 19th Street South for not wearing a seatbelt. He was given a warning for the seatbelt and released to appear in court.

• Cody Kessler, 26, of Newton was arrested at 1:46 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for probation violation after authorities located him at the adult probation office. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

• Six individuals were charged after authorities were dispatched at 11:51 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a possible underage drinking party in the 5700 block of West 100th Street North. Those charged with minor in possession of alcohol include Phoebe A. Teague, 17, of Ankeny; Dustin R. Vanderweide, 17, of Colfax; Abigail J. Cox, 17, of Ankeny; and a 15-year-old Colfax female. Bryanna C. Muhlbach, 18, of Des Moines and Adrian E. Villegas-Cruz, 20, of Mingo were charged with possession/purchase/open container of alcohol by person 18-20.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
