Hawk softball records 20th win of season

SULLY — Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks are the first softball team in Iowa high school play to reach the 20-win mark in 2014.

The Hawks had to work overtime to get No. 20. Lynnville-Sully was locked in a 1-1 battle with visiting Pella Christian Tuesday.

Lynnville-Sully scored a run in the bottom of the first inning. Pella Christian tied the game in the fifth. The Hawks produced the winning run in the eighth for the 2-1 victory.

Jade Van Rees had two singles in the game for the Hawks. Shelby Davis singled and drove in a run. Madison Rasmusson doubled.

Rasmusson recorded her 20th pitching win of the season also. She gave up five hits, walked one and notched seven strikeouts.

Lynnville-Sully is 20-1 and ranked No. 2 in Iowa Class 1A. Muscatine, which is No. 9 in Class 5A, is 19-2.

The Hawks play Montezuma in South Iowa Cedar League action tonight at home. Lynnville-Sully is 12-0 in league play.
