MARENGO — Meliek Meyer and Bailee Samson each claimed one individual South Iowa Cedar League track championship. They also carried off two relay championships in last week’s SICL championship meet hosted by Iowa Valley.

Meyer is the SICL 100-meter dash champion, winning 11.37 seconds, with Samson right on his heels for second place in 11.41. Samson captured the 200-meter dash title in 23.02 seconds with Meyer in a close second at 23.15.

Samson and Meyer combined with Sage Ehresman and Caden Doll to win the 4x100-meter relay race in 44.94 seconds. Payton Haack and Brandon Dunsbergen joined with Meyer and Samson to post a winning time of 1 minute, 35.73 seconds in the 4x200-meter relay race.

Lynnville-Sully placed second as a team with 122 points. Belle Plaine was the SICL team champion with 150 points.

“We ran, threw and jumped well and earned a second place finish in the tough SICL meet. We knew this would be a really great meet to challenge us and we stepped up in a lot of ways.” said Mike Parkinson, Hawk head coach.

“We asked our guys to go beyond their normal means in a meet and many of them did that. I am very pleased with our efforts and performance and this will be a great launchpad for us to move forward as we prepare for our district track meet.”
