On Saturday, April 26, was the most recent DEA Drug Take-Back Initiative in Newton and Baxter. Thanks to the Newton Police Department, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office., Newton Fire Department and Baxter Fire/EMS, the day was a success.
The Newton location collected an all-time high with more than 150 pounds of medication. This was the first time Baxter participated in the program and was able to gather approximately 25 pounds as well. These programs would not be possible and continue to grow without the support of the community. Programs such as this take place nationwide to combat the abuse of prescription and over-the-counter medication and ensure eco-friendly disposal at the same time.
This is a semi-annual event with the next one scheduled for late September.
