Raider boys shine at home track meet
BAXTER — Bryce Kemp was as busy as he was successful Monday night at the CMB Invite.
Kemp won three of the four events in which he competed, taking top honors in the 100-meter dash (11.21 seconds), 200-meter dash (22.82) and the 110-meter hurdles (14.44). He placed second in the long jump (20 feet, 8 1/4inches).
The CMB junior was one of nine Raider athletes claiming first place at the team’s home meet.
Zach Samson joined Kemp in winning multiple events. Samson, a senior and reigning state champion in the shot put, won both the discus and shot put by convincing margins. Samson’s longest shot put throw traveled 54’10”, and his winning discus throw sailed 141’8 1/2”.
The Raiders claimed two more top finishes in relay events. The foursome of Noah Cather, Creighton Caple, Kyle Cather and Seth Blake won the 4x800-meter relay by almost five seconds with a time of 5 minutes, 55.32 seconds. Noah and Kyle Cather also joined Nick Littell and Dalton Birchmier in the distance medley, winning in 3:55.95.
The hurdle events produced two winners for CMB as Jordan Coughenour crossed the finish line first in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.39 seconds. Shortly behind him was teammate Brady Stover in third place at 1:01.20.
CMB athletes combined for six second-place finishes. Zach Huffaker earned one of those, finishing behind Kemp in the 100-meter dash (11.13). Huffaker also finished behind Kemp in the long jump with a third-place mark of 19’9 1/4”.
Coughenour took second in the 400-meter dash in 51.45 seconds. Hunter Gunderson cleared the bar at 6 feet for second in the high jump. Patrick Girard placed second in the shot put at 49’7”. The CMB 4x400 meter relay team also finished second in 3:36.58.
The Raiders also received good showings in the 3,200-meter run from Mark Deutsch (third place, 11:00.95) and Colin Thomson (fourth place, 11:23.19) as well as from Clayton Weltha in the discus (fourth place, 126’ 51/2”).
Littell, Stover, Joey Nissen and Austin Moorman placed third in the 110-meter shuttle hurdle relay race in 1:04.36, one second behind second-place Bondurant-Farrar.
