Ruby Irene Schrader, 96, of Monroe passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Hospice of Pella — Comfort House.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 28, at the Monroe United Methodist Church, with burial following at Hewitt Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Monday. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Pella — Comfort House and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The daughter of Neal and Bessie (Dearinger) Van Der Werff, Ruby was born on Sept. 10, 1917, in Galesburg, Iowa. She attended Rose Hill Country School. On March 5, 1938, she was united in marriage to Delbert Schrader in Newton. Ruby enjoyed painting ceramics. She focused on wildlife figurines and holiday decorations. Ruby entered her art in Iowa State Fair competitions and sold pieces at local craft shows. She also enjoyed quilting, hand embroidering and camping at Robert’s Creek and the Iowa State Fair.

Those left to honor her memory include many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Mabel Boat.
