Tigerhawk boys turn in top performances

SAYDEL — It was a night of season-topping performances Thursday for the Colfax-Mingo boy’s track team, as they continued their road trip at Saydel High School.

The Tigerhawks scored 73 points overall and placed fourth in the meet.

C-M boys Head Coach Matt Barkalow reveled in his team’s positive performance.

“We set season bests tonight in our 4x100-meter, 4x200-meter and 4x400-meter relays with Jake Lietz having a terrific night, anchoring all three events,” Barkalow said. “Our boys all gave outstanding effort tonight, and I am extremely proud of our entire team.”

The Tigerhawks earned medals in two events at Saydel, with the bronze going to going to Jake Buehrer for his third place finish in the 1,600-meter run. The C-M runner clocked a time of 5 minutes 6.4 seconds, edging closer to what Barkalow says is Buehrer’s person goal of under five minutes.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Blake Summy, Jaden Rusk, Gabe Simpson and Lietz earned a silver medal with a season-best time of 3:45.42.

In the 100-meter dash, Lietz took fourth place in 12:35 seconds, and Clayton Brown snagged the fourth spot in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:18.10.

In the 3,200-meter run, Richard Blom also earned a fourth place finish in 12:33.00. The relay team of Summy, Simpson, Kyle Breen and Lietz hit a season-best time of 48.65 seconds in the 4x100-meter taking fourth place.

The Tigerhawks continued their consistency snagging the fourth place spots in both the 4x200-meter and 4x800-meter relays. Summy, Simpson, Juan Gonzales, and Lietz finished the 4x200 in 1:39.29. Simpson, Jaden Rusk, Buehrer and Brown clocked a time of 9:11.57 in the 4x800.

In the 1,600-meter distance medley, the Tigerhawks took another fourth place spot with Ethan Opfer, Lane Dunblazier, Brown and Colin Lourens in at 4:24.32. The relay team of Richard Blom, Lourens, Cody Brodka and Buehrer took fourth in 4:24.32. A fourth place finish went to the C-M shuttle-hurdle relay team of Blom, Lourens, Brodka and Buehrer in 1:15.41.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Blom took fifth in 20.89 seconds. Sixth place in the 400-meter dash went to Rusk in 58.24 seconds.  Will Dunsbergen placed sixth in the 3,200-meter run in 12:53.75. In the 400-meter hurdles, Bloom finished sixth in 1:13.98.

Seventh place in the 400-meter dash went to Breen with a time of 59.18 seconds. Gonzales rounded out the Tigerhawk runners’ top eighth place finishes with a time of 12.95 seconds in the 100-meter dash a clocking 26.45 in the 200-meter dash.

C-M field athletes continued to build consistency Thursday. Placing fourth in the high jump was Lourens with a leap of 5 feet 2 inches. He also posted a fifth place showing in the long jump with 18’ 1”. Sixth place in the long jump went to Summy with a leap of 17’ 8”. Discus thrower Michael Deal placed sixth in the event with a throw of 88’ 10”. Nicholas Deal placed seventh in the discus, throwing 85’ 1”. James Stoecker took eighth in the shot put in 41’ 4”.

The Tigerhawk boys next travel to Martensdale-St. Marys April 24 at 5 p.m.
