Cardinal tennis boys lose at Boone

BOONE — Newton’s boys came up empty on the tennis courts Thursday. The Cardinals   lost all 11 matches against host Boone.

Newton’s Ben Van Dalen dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Eddie Smith at No. 1 singles and Jon Vitek lost 6-0, 6-4 to Danny Anderson at No. 2 singles. In No. 3 singles action, Alex Cron lost 6-0, 6-0 to Brady Newbold.

Boone’s Paul Solomon defeated Newton’s Brian Jones, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles match. Troy Barsh beat Newton’s Chas Antle, 6-1, 6-0 in No. 5 singles and Jason Frei posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Newton’s Joe Stammeyer at No. 6 singles.

In doubles action, Van Dalen and Vitek lost 6-2, 6-3 to Smith and Anderson; Cron and Jones dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Newbold tand Solomon; Newton’s Liam Briggs and Stammeyer lost 6-4, 6-0 to Barsh and Trevor Erb; Antle and Jarred Griffin lot 6-2, 6-1 to Frei and Jordan Crady and at No. 5 doubles, Newton’s Austin Van Brogen and Sean Richardson lost to Jake Krafcisin and Ethan Patterson, 6-0, 6-1.

The Cardinals have a week to work on their games. Next up for them is the Marshalltown Invitational tournament Saturday.
