Lynnville-Sully track girls win division title

EDDYVILLE — Competing in their second track meet this week, Lynnville-Sully’s girls showed their resiliency and depth as a team Thursday at the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Invitational. The Hawks captured the Class B championship of the meet.

Lynnville-Sully scored 142 points to win the team title. North Mahaska was second with 134 points. There were seven teams in the division.

“We scored points in nearly every event we had competitors in,” Hawk head coach Darin Arkema said. “It’s always fun to win meets, but especially when you can look through the results and see how many girls contributed to scoring points. Hopefully, this early season success makes us hungry for more.”

Lizzy Van Manen took the gold medal in the discus with a throw of 103 feet, 7 inches. Jelissa Rozendaal placed fourth in the shot put at 27’4”.

The rest of the Hawks’ points came on the track.

Tara Vos won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 40.07 seconds. Alexa Vander Leest captured told in the 1,500-meter run in 5:22.65 with teammate Cori Rice running third in 6:07.50. Vander Leest placed second in the 3,000-meter race in 11:40.49 and Alexis Hardenbrook finished fifth in 15:02.10.

Madison Rasmusson posted a winning time of 1:04.77 in the 400-meter dash with Line Ascanius running fourth in 1:14.14. Kasiah Ehresman turned in a third-place time of 13.69 seconds in the 100-meter dash and Makenzy Rozendaal placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 30.56 seconds.

Ehresman, Van Manen and Rasmusson combined with Brenna Lanser to claim first place in the 4x100-meter relay race in 54.27 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team of Vos, Van Manen, Ehrsman and Rasmusson won in 4:32.59.

Lanser finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:21.20 and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 19.38 seconds. She teamed with Kristy Sevcik, Shelby Foster and Kaley Exline to take second in the shuttle hurdle relay race in 1:26.67.

Lynnville-Sully’s 4x200-meter relay team of M. Rozendaal, Olivia Ritter, J. Rozendaal and Emma Schnell was second in 2:06.57. The Hawks’ foursome of Ehresman, Van Manen, Rice and Vos came in second in the distance medley relay race in 4:42.18. Rice, Schnell, Ascanius and Ritter combined for second in the 4x800-meter relay race in 12:16.71. In the sprint medley relay, Sevcik, J. Rozendaal, Schnell and Foster ran fourth in 2:20.39.

The Hawks travel to Pella next Tuesday for the Pella Christian track meet.
