• Jessica Adewuyi, 30, of Newton was charged March 10 with three counts of failure to participate in a truancy mediation meeting, a simple misdemeanor, for allegedly failing to participant in mediation meetings scheduled for Feb. 7 and 28 for her children. She was released to appear in court.

• Kimberly R. Carr, 30, of Newton was charged with serious assault after authorities were dispatched at 5:48 p.m. Thursday to a residence in the 400 block of North Fourth Avenue East in reference to an assault. Carr was charged for allegedly kicking the victim and was released to appear in court. Carr also was charged March 10 with failure to participate in a truancy mediation meeting, a simple misdemeanor, for allegedly failing to participant in a mediation meeting scheduled for Feb. 28 for her child. She was released to appear in court.

• Jorge A. Flores-Estrada, 26, of Mingo was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court after authorities were called at 12:30 p.m. March 12 to the Jasper County Courthouse in reference to a subject there wanted on an active warrant. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Christian L. Gilbert, 17, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped him at 11:49 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of North Second Avenue West for having an inoperable brake light and determined his license was suspended. He was given a warning for the light and released to appear in court.

• Melissa J. Gullion, 44, of Monroe was arrested on a warrant for probation violation after authorities were called at 11:20 a.m. March 13 to the adult probation office in reference to a female there who was wanted on an active warrant. She was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Desmonne J. Hoffert, 23, of Newton was arrested at 2:02 a.m. Saturday on a warrant from the Des Moines Police Department for failure to appear in court on an assault charge after Newton police stopped him in the 600 block of East Second Street South. He was taken to the Polk County line and turned over to Des Moines police.

• Jimmy R. James, 28, of Newton was charged with public intoxication after authorities were dispatched at 8:51 p.m. Thursday to the 600 block of West Second Street South in reference to an intoxicated male. Police located the suspect, identified as James, in the 200 block of First Street South. He smelled of alcohol and failed sobriety tests. He was charged and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Robert J. Jiron Jr., 25, of Newton was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities observed two males walking at 4:31 a.m. March 12 at West Fourth Street North and North Second Avenue West and stopped to ask them what they were doing. The subjects said they were walking home. While an officer ran their information, Jiron allegedly pulled a syringe from his back pocket and tossed it behind him in view of the patrol car camera. He was charged and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Dustin G. Johnson, 30, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped him at 9:45 p.m. March 13 in the 1200 block of First Avenue East for no headlight and determined his license had been suspended. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Kurtiss P. Landrum, 46, of Newton was arrested at 1:02 p.m. March 12 at the Jasper County Courthouse on an active Jasper County warrant for burglary and kidnapping. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• James D. Ore, 51, of Monroe was charged with conspiracy with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a Class B felony, and Jodi L. Brown, 41, of Monroe was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a Class B felony, after police stopped their vehicle at 12:24 a.m. March 12 in the 100 block of South Second Avenue West for having an inoperable brake light. The driver, Ore, consented to a search of the vehicle, and authorities located a small plastic baggie with a white powdery residue inside a makeup bag. A passenger in the vehicle, Brown, stated the bag belonged to her. Police searched Brown and found a baggie with a white crystal substance consistent with methamphetamine that weighed 5.4 grams. Police search Ore and found a glass methamphetamine pipe. Both were transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Aaron D. Reeves, 18, of Newton and Stephanie E. Petted, 18, of Newton each were charged with possession of stolen property second-degree theft, a Class D felony, following an investigation by authorities. Newton police processed a burglary Feb. 4 at 310 N. Second Ave. E., where three video cameras, a projector, an iPod, a toner cartridge, a microphone and cash had been taken. Detectives received information indicated Reeves may have been involved. Authorities went to Reeves’ residence at 400 N. Second Ave. E. #9 and were informed by the landlord that Reeves reportedly had moved out. The landlord let police inside the apartment, and authorities observed some of the stolen items. Police contacted Reeves and Petted, who also resided at the apartment, and met with them for an interview. Petted consented to a search of her vehicle, where a marijuana pipe was found. Reeves and Petted said another person staying with them committed the burglary and brought the stolen property to their residence.

• Logan D. Plante, 18, address unknown, was charged with possession of stolen property fourth-degree theft after authorities located him at 3:36 p.m. Sunday in connection with an incident in February. Police conducted a search Feb. 7 at 400 N. Second Ave. E. #9 regarding stolen property and received information indicating Logan sold a ViewSonic projector to another person. He stated he was given the projector and that he thought it was stolen. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Ashley J. Schuler, 27, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped her at 11:27 p.m. March 12 in the 1100 block of North 11th Ave. E. and determined her license was suspended. She also was cited for no insurance and failure to secure child. She was released to appear in court.

• A 14-year-old Newton male was charged with disorderly conduct after authorities were informed he pulled down his pants, exposing his buttocks, in class at approximately noon March 6 at Berg Middle School. The boy allegedly pulled down his pants after being told several times to pull up his sagging pants. He was referred to juvenile court services.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
