SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Fresh off winning the Big 12 tournament, No. 3 seed Iowa State will play an East Regional game Friday against a North Carolina Central team making its NCAA tournament debut.

North Carolina Central, the No. 14 seed, is on a 20-game winning streak and has captured the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles. The Eagles (28-5) won their first league tournament title since 1950. Their history-making season also included an 82-72 overtime victory over NCAA tournament participant North Carolina State.

Iowa State also enters this tournament on a roll.

The Cyclones (26-7) beat Kansas State, Kansas and Baylor to win their first Big 12 tournament title since 2000.

The winner of Friday’s game plays either No. 6 seed North Carolina (23-9) or No. 11 seed Providence (23-11) on Sunday.

DeAndre Kane scored 17 points, Georges Niang added 13 and Iowa State won its first Big 12 tournament title since 2000, defeating Baylor 74-65 Saturday in Kansas City, Mo.

Naz Long and Dustin Hogue had 12 points apiece, and Big 12 player of the year Melvin Ejim finished with 10 points and nine rebounds for the fourth-seeded Cyclones (26-7), who knocked off top-seeded Kansas in the semifinals before ending the Bears’ tremendous tournament run.
