• A 14-year-old Newton boy was charged with assault after authorities responded to a report of an assault at 10:25 a.m. March 4 at Berg Middle School. He was charged for allegedly poking a girl’s buttocks with his finger and touching her breast when trying to retrieve “a hair that was on her shirt.” The boy was referred to juvenile court services.

• A 14-year-old Newton girl was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities responded to a theft complaint at 11:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at Newton Senior High School. The victim stated her UGG boots, valued at $180, were taken from a high school dance. The officer observed the 14-year-old Newton girl wearing the boots in school. She admitted to taking the boots. She was charged and referred to juvenile court services.

• Reece J. Brodersen, 16, at Prairie City was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities and paramedics responded to a report of a shoplifter feeling ill at 10:04 p.m. Feb. 27 at Walmart. Brodersen was charged for allegedly taking merchandise valued at $15.48. He was referred to juvenile court services.

• Alexia Brooks, 16, of Newton was charged with disorderly conduct after authorities were dispatched at 8:45 a.m. March 3 to Basics and Beyond Alternative High School in reference to an out-of-control student. Brooks allegedly caused a scene in a classroom by raising her voice after being told she had to sit next to another student. Brooks had been warned following a previous outburst the week before. She was referred to juvenile court services.

• Terry L. Clark, 16, of Newton and Keith M. McCollum, 17, of Newton were charged with disorderly conduct after authorities were dispatched at 11:41 a.m. Feb. 27 to Basics and Beyond Alternative High School in reference to a fight. There were charged for allegedly fighting in the middle of the road and referred to juvenile court services.

• James M. Coon, 60, of Newton was charged with assault after authorities responded to an assault complaint at 10:19 p.m. Feb. 28 at the VFW in Newton. Authorities located the suspect, Coon, in the 400 block of First Avenue West. He was charged for allegedly punching another man. He was released to appear in court.

• A 15-year-old Newton boy was charged with possession of marijuana after authorities were notified at 9:42 a.m. Feb. 28 of a Newton Senior High School student who had a baggie containing one gram of marijuana. The student was charged and referred to juvenile court services.

• Randy G. Dickerson Jr., 28, of Newton was charged with domestic assault after authorities responded to a report of an assault at 11:05 p.m. March 7 at a residence in the 600 block of East Second Street South. He was charged for allegedly assaulting a male and was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• David M. Philo III, 30, of Newton was charged with public intoxication, second offense, after authorities responded to a fight in progress at 12:47 a.m. March 7 in the 500 block of South Fourth Avenue East. Officers observed Philo walking out into the road. He smelled of alcohol and appeared to be intoxicated. He admitted to drinking and stated he was intoxicated. He was charged and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Shawna M. Reid, 28, of Velleville, Ill., was charged with operating while intoxicated after authorities responded to a report at 6:43 a.m. March 8 of a person slumped over in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with the engine running in the 1000 block of First Avenue East. She failed sobriety tests, and a Datamaster test indicated a BAC of .112. She was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Debra R. Sadler, 52, of Grinnell was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities responded to a shoplifting complaint at 1:13 p.m. March 1 at Walmart. Sadler was charged for attempting to leave the store without paying for a plant and other items, valued at a total of $44.17. She was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Denver M. Sudbrock, 16, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities responded to a shoplifting complaint at 2:13 p.m. March 5 at Walmart. Sudbrock was charged for allegedly attempting to leave the store without paying for several items. She was referred to juvenile court services.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
