Cyclones hold off Wildcats in Big 12 tournament action

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Melvin Ejim had 24 points and 10 rebounds, Dustin Hogue added 19 points and 10 boards and No. 16 Iowa State held on through a tense final minute to beat Kansas State, 91-85, in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament Thursday.

Georges Niang added 18 points and Naz Long finished with 14 points for the fourth-seeded Cyclones (24-7), who advanced to play Kansas, a 77-70 winner in overtime against Oklahoma State Thursday, in Friday’s semifinals.

Marcus Foster scored 21 points to lead the Wildcats (20-12), who had been holding opponents to 64.9 points, best in the Big 12. Shane Southwell added 19 points, freshman Nigel Johnson had a career-best 17 and big man Thomas Gipson finished with 13 points.
