Random face punching incidents reported in Ames

AMES (AP) — Ames police are investigating a series of reports in which a man randomly punched people in the face and ran to a waiting getaway car.

Two assaults were reported on Feb. 16 and another Saturday night.

The victims report walking outdoors in a public place when a man quickly approached, punched them in the face and fled.

Iowa State University sophomore Tony Behnke says he had a concussion when he was hit and fell to the ground. He said the assailant and his accomplices laughed as they got into a car and left.

Another man hit the same night suffered a broken jaw.

Ames police say the man involved was black, about 6 feet tall with dreadlocks, possibly with yellow or highlighted tips.
