Carolyn ‘Twiggy’ S. Wyatt
Carolyn “Twiggy” S. Wyatt, 67, of Oskaloosa died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born June 29, 1946, in Mahaska County, the daughter of Herbert and Mildred Sellars Dannels. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1965. On May 28, 1971, she was united in marriage to Russell D. Wyatt in Oskaloosa. Russell died June 29, 2006. Carolyn worked at Maytag in Newton for 25 years, she retired from there in 1992. In 1995, she started working at William Penn College, she retired from there in 2012. She enjoyed playing cards, trips to the casino, dancing and volunteering at the V.F.W. and the Eagles. She also enjoyed working with her friends. She always looked forward to vacations at Green Acres near Rathbun Lake. She was a member of the V.F.W. and the Eagles Auxiliaries. Carloyn had a fighter’s spirit and was joking with her family and caretakers up until the very end. She was always willing to lend a hand and help out whenever she could.
Her family includes her two children and their spouses, Walter and Melonee Wyatt of Newton and Rhonda and Trey Gerke of Richmond, Texas; a step son and his wife, Ronnie and Lori Wyatt of New Sharon; four grandchildren, Sophia and Kolton Gerke, Corrie Beth Wyatt and Tyler Cremeens; her brother, Gary Dannels of Beacon; a special friend, Lyle Davis of Barnes City; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
In addition to her husband, Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother in infancy.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28, in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Charlie McMillian officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday morning after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
