PCM girls beat CMB in finale
BAXTER — Bouncing back from a loss Saturday at home against North Polk, Prairie City-Monroe’s Mustang girls finished out the regular season Monday with 68-28 win over Heart of Iowa Conference rival Collins-Maxwell/Baxter.
The Raiders were coming off of two straight wins in conference play when the Mustangs came into the CMB gym. PCM has won six of their final seven games of the season, losing 62-44 to North Polk Saturday.
CMB end the regular-season at 6-16 overall and 4-14 in conference play. The Raiders open Class 2A Region 6 action Saturday, hosting Ogden in Baxter.
There were no individual statistics available for either PCM or CMB from Monday’s game.
At home Saturday, the Mustangs battled point-for-point with the North Polk Comets. The teams were locked in a 12-12 tie after one period and it was 26-all at halftime.
The Comets got the edge with a 20-13 run in the third quarter. The Mustangs were held to five points in the final eight minutes while Comets poured in 16 points.
North Polk got 23 points and 13 rebounds from Miranda Murphy. Megan Murphy added 22 points. The Murphy girls shot all 27 of the Comets’ free throws, hitting 20.
PCM finished 13-5 for third place in the HOIC. The Mustangs (14-7) host Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Saturday in the opening round of Class 3A Region 6 play. The game is a 7 p.m. in Monroe.
