• Chad E. Berry, 31, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after he was stopped at 8:52 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of East Eighth Street South. He also was cited for no insurance and given a warning for failure to maintain registration plate. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jay R. Brumfield, 50, of Vinton was arrested on a Vinton warrant for fraudulent practices after Newton police responded to an accident at 2:58 p.m. Monday at Love’s Truck Stop in Newton. Brumfield was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• David M. Dodd, 58, of Newton was cited with striking fixtures and leaving the scene of an accident after authorities responded to a single-vehicle accident at 8:26 p.m. Monday at South 11th Avenue West and West Fourth Street South. Dodd was traveling north on Fourth Street and turned west onto 11th Avenue. Dodd stated a Jeep at the intersection came toward him, forcing him to back up, and that he didn’t realize he hit a utility pole. He noticed the damage a few minutes later and notified Alliant Energy. Damage was estimated at $5,000 to the pole and $500 to the vehicle, owned by Dodd’s Trash Hauling & Recycling.

• Austin A. Fiser, 18, of Grinnell was charged with trespass after authorities were dispatched at Tuesday to 1103 W. Sixth St. S. in reference to an unwanted guest. When authorities arrived, the victim stated Fiser had left the residence and that she did not want Fiser back on the property. Officers told Fiser he was not allowed on the property, and he stated he understood. Officers were dispatched back at 12:08 a.m. and located Fiser on the property again. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Megan A. James, 28, of Newton was charged with operating while intoxicated, littering, open container and fifth-degree theft after authorities were dispatched at 10:45 p.m. Monday to Walmart in reference to a theft. Store employees stated they observed James walking out of the store with a shopping cart full of items without paying. Employees confronted James, but she left the scene. Authorities located and stopped her at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of First Avenue East. James had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech. She refused sobriety tests. Authorities located an empty mini bottle of alcohol in the driver’s side door and cold beer that had spilled on the floor of the back seat. James was charged and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Tanner B. Jensen, 23, of Kellogg was charged with fourth-degree theft in connection with an incident reported to authorities at 7:56 p.m. Jan. 16 at Radio Shack. Jensen was charged for allegedly stealing $219.98 worth of merchandise, including a speaker and headphones. He was arrested at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant in Marion County and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jackson L. Norton, 22, of Panora and Darren S. Lehrkamp, 21, of Newton were charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were dispatched at 3:50 p.m. Monday to Walmart in reference to a theft. Store employees informed an officer they saw two males with shopping carts with clothes valued at approximately $131.44 and proceed past the last point of sale. When confronted, the males ran. Both men were transported to the Jasper County Jail.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
