Robert Lee Etter

Robert Lee Etter, 85, of Melcher, formerly of Newton, died Saturday Jan. 11, 2014.

He was born Sept. 14, 1928, in Russell, Iowa, the son of Fred and Nancy Groves Etter. On Aug. 7, 1948 he was united in marriage to Minnie Loo Elizabeth Swanson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He worked for the Maytag Company for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He continued to work in construction and roofing until 2003. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, dancing and playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Charles, Frederick and Carl, a s sister Ulah Kittle Golob, son Steve and two grandsons.

Those left to honor Robert’s memory are sons, Tim (Dianna) of Newton, Bob (Becky) of Newton, Jim (Cindy) of Knoxville and Bill (Delinda) of Kellogg; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two brothers, Larry (Pat) of Newton and Don (Becci) of Omaha, Neb.

A celebration of life for Robert will be held at a later date.
