Newton Police Department

• Tiffany M. Bass, 31, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after she was stopped at 2:50 p.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of First Avenue West. She was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Devin M. Hoksbergen, 23, of Newton was charged with violation of a protective order after authorities responded to a complaint at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The protected party said she had just arrived at Mattingly Music & Books when she heard a knock at the door and saw Hoksbergen standing at the door. Hoksbergen claimed to be waving at a store employee, but the employee did not know him. Hoksbergen was charged and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• George W. Nelson, 43, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities responded to a shoplifting complaint at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Walmart. Nelson was charged for allegedly concealing a bottle of alcohol valued at $20.88 and attempting to leave the store with it. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
