The Mutual Insurance Association of Iowa recognized Jasper County Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Burdess, Baxter Police Officer Joe Bartello and Officer Adam Herman, formerly of the Newton Police Department, with its Public Service Award at the MIAI’s annual convention in Des Moines on Nov. 18. The officers were recognized for their heroic efforts in saving the life of Dwayne Michael from the Prairie Creek west of Newton on May 30, when his semitrailer veered off into the creek.
