I can’t believe it has been a week since I have started working here at the Daily News.
It’s without a doubt been nearly the quickest week in my life, but without a doubt the most fun.
I just got off the phone with my sister, making holiday plans for the birthday of my nephew and Thanksgiving. I know going to the big city to visit family will be filled with questions like, “How was your first week?” along with numerous stories and highlights from this past week.
This week’s Veterans Day celebration at VFW Post 1655 in Newton was a chance to see local veterans, reunite with old friends and make new ones with Rep. Dave Loebsack and his team. I had a chance to go back to my past, as well, visiting my first elementary school to find that many of the teachers I had when I was in school are still there.
I also wanted to take the time to thank all those who have served our great country, giving us at the Daily News the freedom to do what we do.
The introductions of city and school officials along with the congratulations of those who I have had the chance to call friends.
The huge highlight to my week was covering the one-year anniversary of the Paul and Dawn Bleeker’s ownership of the Capitol II Theatre in downtown Newton.
I was able to take part in preparing the theater for the re-opening day. The memories built in that one year are what have made me strive to do more for the community.
As I prepare to travel this weekend, I will love being with family, enjoying a nice Hot-n-Ready Pizza and crazy bread from Little Caesars, and getting some rest to be ready for Monday. The community response has been overwhelming for me and its because of my friends and members of the community that make coming to work every day amazing.
The one who has inspired me to write will be celebrating a milestone birthday. My grandmother Ramona Lynam, who worked as a writer for the Corning Free Press, will be turning 70 years old next week. I am sure I will be in trouble for what I said, but just a special way to tell her I love her and thanks for keeping on me to write stories, and shoot pictures.
Enjoy the season no matter if it’s just the holidays or the constant stream of family events.
