Newton Cline Tool Red records big wins

NEWTON — Newton Cline Tool Red powered past two unbeaten football teams Oct. 20. Cline Tool Red is Newton’s fifth-and-sixth-grade tackle football team and it traveled to Blairsburg for a doubleheader.

Cline Tool Red defeated Iowa Falls 25-8 and nailed down an 18-12 win over Manson. Both teams were undefeated at the time.

Cody Satterfiels scored seven touchdowns in the two games and had rolled up 570 yards of total offense. Kyle Long passed for more than 500 yards in the two contests.

Against Iowa Falls, Satterfiels had 180 yards rushing with touchdown runs of 80 yards and 40 yards. He also caught two touchdown passes from Long. Cody Hamilton made five catches for 82 yards. Long piled up 172 yards in passing in the contest.

“For Cody and Kyle to have career days, our offensive line of Cody Hamilton, Gage Linahon, Clay Meyer, Clay Roorda, Carter Vanderschel, Trent Winchell and Josh Meyer all blocked super in the trenches and down field,” said Archie Ergenbright Cline Tool Red coach. “Lane Arrowodd, Logan Cummings and Griffin Wood rotated in to keep our linemen fresh for both games.”

Cline Tool Red won a “smash-mouth” contest against Manson. The ground game was stopped but not Satterfield, who caught touchdown passes of 90 yards, 80 yards and 65 yards from Long in the game. He finished with 305 yards in receptions and rushed for 65 yards. Long threw five touchdown passes and passed for 407 yards.

Ergenbright said the Red’s defense was led by Luke Zaabel, Cummungs, Cade Cupples, Jarrett Antle, Griffin Wood, Gavin Urias, Ryan Brown, and Jay McGuire.

“Our defense stopped Manson three times on fourth down at our 10-yard line. These two wins were a total team effort,” Ergenbright said.
