A 21-year-old Newton man has been charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony, for allegedly performing sexual acts on a 14-year-old female against her will.

Drew M. Orndorff was charged Oct. 15 following an investigation by the Newton Police Department into events that occurred between May 2011 and February 2013. According to court documents, the victim and her mother contacted police on June 21, and the victim stated Orndorff came into her room several nights a week during that time frame and performed sexual acts on her.

Orndorff was living at the same residence as the victim during the course of the incidents, and witnesses indicated he had an obsession with the victim. Witnesses also reported seeing Orndorff coming out of the girl’s bedroom on at least two occasions after she had gone to bed. Text messages and a written letter indicate Orndorff believed he had a “love” relationship with the victim, according to court documents.

Orndorff was taken to the Jasper County Jail and later posted bond. An initial court appearance was scheduled for this morning.
