Volunteers needed for JCCB Halloween Hike

The Jasper County Conservation Board is in need of actors for its Halloween Hike on Friday, Oct. 25, at Mariposa Park.

The hike starts at 6 p.m., actors need to be in place by 5:30 p.m. and the event will be done by 9 p.m. Costumes and make-up are provided. The scripts are easy to memorize and are only a minute or two long. The theme this year is “Sounds of the Night.” The actors are placed on the nature trail, where they perform to the hikers that come in groups at 15 minute intervals.

Anyone who would like to help out and  portray a “critter” for the fundraiser is asked to email bjhealy@iowatelecom.net.

The Halloween Hike will be at the Mariposa Recreation Area, located about seven miles northeast of Newton on Highway T12. The hike is a fun and educational, not scary, event. Hour-long hikes will begin at 6 p.m. and will depart every 15 minutes. Each time slot can accommodate around 25 hikers. The last hike will begin at 8 p.m.
