Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Pictured (from left) are United Way of Jasper County Executive Director Travis Padget, Crisis Center Outreach Advocate Pamela Romaine, Newton Mayor Mike Hansen and United Way interns Amanda Hawkins and Summer Goodwin as Hansen declared October Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Newton. The Crisis Center serves as a women’s shelter for several regional counties, including Jasper. The United Way of Jasper County and the Crisis Center are hosting a candlelight vigil at 6 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in the United Way parking lot, 312 First Ave. W., to honor the memory of Iowa victims of domestic abuse. The public is invited, and individuals will read victim stories.
