Department

• Jadalynn J. Bradley, 22, of Centerville was charged with fifth-degree theft after officers were dispatched at 11:35 a.m. Saturday to Walmart on a report of a theft. Bradley attempted to steal $12.47 in merchandise. She was released to appear in court.

• Ryan E. Dearinger, 41, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after officers were dispatched at 3:56 p.m. Thursday to Hy-Vee on a report of a theft. Dearinger attempted to conceal a package of sirloin steaks in his shorts. The steaks were valued at $22.12. He was released to appear in court.

• Casey W. Edwards, 20, of Monroe was charged with fifth-degree theft after officers were dispatched at 3:33 p.m. Saturday to Walmart on a report of a theft. Edwards attempted to steal a cell phone charger valued at $30.90. Edwards was released to appear in court.

• Jason R. Gray, 26, of Newton was arrested on an active warrant after being located at 1:04 a.m. Saturday at 807 N. Second Ave. E.  He was taken to jail.

• Paul L. Harris III, 25, of Newton and Leonidas M. Psomas Jr., 44, of Newton were charged with fourth-degree theft after officers were dispatched at 10:01 p.m. Thursday to Kum & Go on a report of a theft. The two were observed concealing alcohol and candy, totaling in $223.30. They were taken to jail.

• Richard E. Keller, 31, of Newton was arrested on an active warrant after officers located him at 2:38 a.m. Saturday at 1009 E. 12th St. N. His warrant was out of Cerro Gordo County. He was taken to jail.

• Cody W. Minenga, 33, of Newton was arrested On Thursday at the Jasper County Courthouse on an active warrant. He was taken to jail.

• Gamanne Selders, 33, of Newton was charged with simple assault after officers were dispatched at 9:32 p.m. Saturday to the 1700 block of West Fourth Street South on a report of an assault. Selders slammed a victim against a car. He was taken to jail.

• Kenneth A. White, 47, of Newton was cited for obstructed view after he struck a parked vehicle at 5:19 p.m. Thursday at South Fourth Avenue East. White, who was with his two daughters, could not see a legally parked vehicle because the sun was setting. The accident caused an estimated $600 damage to the parked vehicle and $4,000 to White’s vehicle.

Sheriff’s Office

• Rodney W. Daily, 53, of Ira was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after officers stopped him at 5:21 p.m. Friday. A breath test resulted in a BAC over .08. He was taken to jail.

• Hans E. Ploessel, 43, of Des Moines was transported from Polk County Jail to Jasper County Jail at 11 a.m. Friday. He had an active warrant for violating his probation.

• Douglas L. Smith, 60, of Prairie City was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after officers stopped him at 8:08 p.m. Thursday at the 8800 block of Highway F48 West. Smith consented to field sobriety tests and failed them. He consented to a field breath test and blew over .08 BAC. A datamaster test resulted in a .076 BAC. He was placed in jail.

• Daniell E. Wolfe, 30, of Urbandale was transported from Polk County Jail to Jasper County Jail on Friday. Wolfe had an active warrant for a probation violation.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
