Raiders fall to Albia on the road

ALBIA — In a clash of Class 2A, District 6 teams, Collins-Maxwell/Baxter trailed undefeated Albia 14-6 going into halftime. However, mistakes told the story of the second half for the Raiders, who were unable to hold on to the football and fell 42-6.

When the Blue Demons took the ball away from the Raiders, it was the ground game punching the ball into the end zone. Senior running back Alex Schultz ran 28 times for 207 yards and three Albia touchdowns. Christian Powless also got into the end zone, scoring once on three carries.

Senior quarterback Zach Samson did not get into his usual rhythm. The Blue Demons dared the Raiders to throw the ball, and although they had some initial success, they ended up throwing five interceptions to Albia, mistakes the could not afford to make against the District leaders. Samson was 17-for-32 with 212 yards through the air. He also ran 17 times for 79 yards and a touchdown.

Austin Moorman and Brady Stover were the main targets for Samson. Stover caught eight passes for 81 yards, and Moorman picked seven receptions out of the air for 93 yards.

CMB running back Gabe Schabillion, who had gone for more than 100 yards in his previous two games, was held to 15 yards on five carries.
